CHEM 265 - Laboratory Techniques


Course Description
This practical lab course will explore the laboratory techniques used for the analysis of water samples. Topics Include: Lab safety, lab equipment, sample handling, chemical reagents, calibration, measurement, reading instruments, QA/QC, weighing, density, oil-water separation, suspended solids, settling, turbidity and jar testing, hardness, pH, conductivity, TDS, alkalinity, silica and iron measurement, titration methods, solution preparations, HACH kits, colorimetric analysis, spectrophotometers, record keeping, results analysis and reporting. An emphasis will be placed on attention to accuracy and precision in performing the standard laboratory procedures used in SAGD water analysis.
