    Course Description:
    This Magnetic Particle Workshop (MPI) provides hands-on training and experience for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspectors who are already acquainted with the theory. It serves to familiarize Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) exam candidates with the equipment your exams will be conducted on. Workshops will be recognized by the CGSB as work experience.

  • INSP 013 - X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Level I


    Course Description:
    This first level X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) course provides a general understanding of XRF principles. Learn how to use XRF for Positive Material Identification (PMI) applications, including sources of error and how to minimize them. Instruction includes hands on use of the tube-based hand held XRF device. This course covers all material needed to write the Natural Resources Canada XRF 1 exam. We will administer the NRCan Level 1 XRF exam and submit the necessary application forms. Pre-Study will be required along with all application forms filled out prior to the course and exam.

    Course Description:
    This Liquid Penetrant Inspection Lab introduces you to the “practical” learning component of the Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) Level I and II course. Designed to train Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) students to perform calibrations and physically inspect parts in a lab setting, this course is intended to complement on-line theory based training.

    This ultrasonics theory course for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) examines fundamental properties of sounds, wave propagation, generation of ultrasonic waves, test equipment and test methods. Instruction is provided in calibration, performance tests, weld inspection, specification and result interpretation.

This method allows technicians to locate defects in ferro-magnetic materials. Radiation safety with x-ray tubes, required by the Alberta Government codes, is also covered.

    Course Description:
    Working in industrial radiography is rewarding but can also be hazardous. To mitigate these hazards, individuals must have a basic understanding of radiation safety principles. This course is a mandatory pre-requisite for learners wishing to obtain Radiography Level I training without previous certification or training in an equivalent Radiation Safety course (i.e. Certified Exposure Device Operator). This course will prepare the learner to operate equipment associated with radiography in a safe and competent manner and in accordance with the applicable radiation safety regulations.

  • ROBT 003 - Microcontroller Robotics Design and Development I


    Course Description:
    This course will introduce students to electronic fabrication and basic microcontroller programming as students build a complete gearbox, solder together an electronics circuit board, and modify and download code to an ATMEL microcontroller robot. The goal of this class is to produce a competitive robot for the internationally known Robot Sumo Wrestling competition. Students take home the robot at completion.
