PHAR 248 - Body Systems & Pharmaceutical Implications 4
Course Description:
This course is designed to explore the anatomy, physiology, medical conditions and medical terminology relating to the urinary and endocrine systems as well as medications for the eye, ear and skin. Students will become familiar with the generic name, trade name and therapeutic classifications of the related top 200 retail drugs used in the pharmacy field.

Course Description:
Radiopharmacy 2 provides learners with the opportunity to continue with their development of requisite knowledge and skills for working in a radiopharmacy environment. Focus will be placed on the preparation of, and quality control for, radiopharmaceuticals used for diagnostic and nuclear medicine therapeutic procedures. PHLB 236 - Phlebotomy and Intravenous Injections
Course Description:
Phlebotomy and Intravenous Injections introduces the learner to intravenous injections and collection of blood specimens using a syringe, an evacuated vial and butterfly needles. Angiocatheter use in intravenous therapy will also be presented.

Course Description:

PHYS 216 - Physics 1
Course Description:
Physics 1 provides an overview of ultrasound instrumentation used in diagnostic medical sonography, furnishing an in-depth understanding of how sound interacts with human soft tissue. Physics principles are examined and skills required to operate ultrasound machines and optimize images necessary for performing a variety of ultrasound examinations are demonstrated.

Physics 3 will provide learners with the fundamental principles regarding spectral and colour Doppler, harmonic imaging and the use of contrast agents in medical sonography. PRAC 213 - Practicum
Course Description:
Practicum provides students with the opportunity to apply the skills, theory and attitudes learned in lab and classroom to a community-based practice setting. Designated clinical partners will guide students through required competencies. students will professionally interact with healthcare providers and patients to provide the services necessary to process prescriptions in a clinical setting. Reflective learning practices are also incorporated into the practicum experience.

PROF 210 - Introduction to Healthcare Delivery
Course Description:
In Introduction to Healthcare Delivery, the role of the healthcare worker in Canada’s changing healthcare system is examined in light of a number of broad trends including the impact of an aging population, ongoing pressures to privatize Medicare services, increased consumer involvement in healthcare issues and the increased emphasis on home care. Special attention is paid to the delivery of healthcare services in Alberta as learners grapple with the ethical and moral issues surrounding the cost of healthcare, issues of patient rights and the impact on current rehabilitation practices. In Fundamentals of Client Care, safe client-handling techniques and effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills are developed through the integration of theory and practice emphasizing the principles of client-centred care. Professional Practice introduces human relations and communication skills needed to work in the medical device reprocessing profession. Topics include teamwork, conflict resolution, customer service, problem solving and legal and ethical issues. This course is taken in conjunction with practicum.

Course Description:
This course introduces inventory control, distribution systems, sterile storage, stock rotation, portering and the case cart system. Hospital standards and governing bodies associated with the medical device reprocessing department will also be explored.

XRAY 200 - Dental Radiography I
Course Description:
Dental Radiography 1 presents theoretical considerations underlying dental radiologic practices. Techniques for exposing various radiographs and the processing and mountings of films will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on radiation hygiene and safety procedures.
