CNST 006 - Introduction to Manhole Vault Construction
Course Description
In this hands-on course, students will be introduced to regulations, safety protocols and basic practices relevant to constructing underground manhole vaults in Southern Alberta. Participating in both theoretical and practical learning activities, students will gain a basic overview of the involvement of the different trades and areas of knowledge involved in these projects: carpentry and formwork; ironwork and concrete reinforcement; and concrete properties and placement. Students will explore case studies for hazard identification, solutions to problems and best practices, as well as work in teams to produce a manhole vault mock-up.
