HSCI 104 - Ophthalmic Assistant 2


Course Description
Ophthalmic Assistant 2 builds on content presented in the first course-Ophthalmic Assistant 1. Learners are introduced to more ophthalmic skills including colour vision testing, instrument maintenance, and visual field testing. Ocular diseases and disorders, ocular emergencies and lasers are covered and patient services, instrument maintenance, workplace relationships, and office procedures help round out the learner’s ancillary knowledge.

This course addresses the entry-level competencies identified in the Canadian Society of Ophthalmic Medical Personnel (CSOMP) dated January 2002, and the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) dated 2002, certification content areas.

Prerequisite(s):

  • HSCI 102

Additional Requisite Information:
You must have completed and passed Ophthalmic Assistant 1 (HSCI 102) to register for the Ophthalmic Assistant 2 (HSCI 104). All candidates must be employed by an ophthalmologist. A written statement from the ophthalmologist on company letterhead must be sent to advising@sait.ca, along with your registration. You must also continue employment with the ophthalmologist for the duration of the program. Learners have 24 weeks to complete this course from the day they register.
