LAND 104 - Line, Locates and Crossings

Course Description
There are two distinct definitions to pipeline crossing. In the first instance a pipeline crossing is where the pipeline intersects with another obstacle which can affect the course or integrity of the pipeline. Roads, railroads, waterways, other pipelines, utility corridors containing cable and power lines are examples of items which can affect the course or the integrity of a pipeline. Special construction techniques must be used to minimize the risk of damage to either installation. In the second definition, a pipeline crossing is where an activity is being performed in the vicinity of the pipeline which has the potential to disturb or damage the pipeline. The procedures used to locate the buried installations is called line location. This course exposes you to standard methods of accomplishing these tasks.
