INSP 111 - Radiography Level I


Course Description
This course provides a basic foundation to industrial radiography for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). Learn the physical principles of penetrating radiation, sources, detection, process and weld interpretation. We will also focus on practical applications and theory for Level I Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) certification.

Introduction to digital and computed radiography is also discussed, as is film interpretation of discontinuities and radiation safety with x-ray tubes - a requirement by the Alberta Government codes.

Additional Requisite Information:
Students must have successfully completed Grade 10 Math or equivalent.

If students cannot produce credentials to demonstrate math proficiency, they must write the Math 10-C exam at SAIT. To book this test, please contact the SAIT Testing Centre at testing@sait.ca.

At least three months field experience in Radiographic inspection is recommended. For inquiries for CGSB certification, contact Natural Resources Canada. Learners must provide their own calculator with scientific functions which will be used throughout the course. Learners must supply their own safety boots for the lab component of this course. Textbooks are included in the course costs.
