PETR 166 - Intro to Oil Sands Mining
Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the mining of Alberta oil sands projects using four mining projects as examples: Syncrude, Suncor, CNRL’s project Horizon, plus Shell and partners at Muskeg River and Jackpine. Oil sands mining topics covered include: basic tools used in mining; geological description of the area; moving and upgrading heavy oil/bitumen up the value chain; oil shale technology; and the environmental aspects of this industry.
