GEOL 256 - Petroleum Geology Course Description This course provides an introduction to basic petroleum geology. Students will explore petroleum-related concepts and exploration procedures from a geological context, including origin and migration of hydrocarbons, reservoir, source and cap rocks, trapping mechanisms, formation evaluation (well log analysis), geologic contour mapping and cross-sections. The petroleum geology of Canada, with emphasis on the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, will be discussed.
