CAMP 130 - Cooking, Introduction (Gr. 7-12) Course Description An introduction to the professional kitchen. Designed for beginner cooks with a passion for food, this camp starts with the basics: food safety and sanitation, knife skills, measuring and seasoning. Learn how to follow a recipe and take home your culinary creations to share with your family.
Essential skills: Numeracy, Reading, Working with others
DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS: All participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes with a good tread; no sandals or open-toe shoes permitted in the kitchens. Long pants are required to be worn in the kitchens; no shorts, capris or low-cut tops. Campers are not permitted to wear nail polish for the duration of this camp. Campers with long hair should ensure that they bring hair elastics to tie back their hair.
SAFETY NOTE: Campers are required to adhere to the safety precautions outlined by the instructors; safety infractions may lead to removal from the camp.
ALLERGY ALERT: Camp includes the preparation of foods containing nuts, fish, and seafood. SAIT’s kitchens and bakeries process nuts and other allergens.
LUNCH: Participants in the Cooking camps do not need to register for the lunch program as they will eat what they make in camp for lunch.
- For youth entering grades 7 through 12 in September.
- Register using your child’s name.
- Registration for camp and lunch closes at 12:00pm (MST) on the Thursday before the camp begins. Late registrations will not be accepted.
- Camps run from 9:00am - 4:00pm.
