YCMP 038 - Introduction to Cooking (Gr. 7-12)


Course Description
An introduction to the professional kitchen. Designed for beginner cooks with a passion for food, this evening youth program starts with the basics: food safety and sanitation, knife skills, measuring and seasoning. Learn how to follow a recipe and take home your culinary creations to share with your family.

Essential skills: Numeracy, Reading, Working with others

DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS: All participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes with a good tread; no sandals or open-toe shoes permitted in the kitchens. Long pants are required to be worn in the kitchens; no shorts, capris or low-cut tops. Participants are not permitted to wear nail polish for the duration of this program. Participants with long hair should ensure that they bring hair elastics to tie back their hair.

SAFETY NOTE: Participants are required to adhere to the safety precautions outlined by the instructors; safety infractions may lead to removal from the program.

ALLERGY ALERT: Paticipants includes the preparation of foods containing nuts. SAIT’s kitchens and bakeries process nuts and other allergens.

  • For youth currently in grades 7-12. 
  • Register using your child’s name.
  • Registration for this program closes at 12:00pm (MST) on the Thursday before the program begins. Late registrations will not be accepted.
  • Programs run from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
