PETR 165 - Intro to Unconventional Gas Course Description As conventional gas reserves decline around the world, it becomes increasingly important to develop “unconventional resources”. This course examines the differences between conventional gas exploration and the production and techniques used in Coalbed Methane (CBM) development.
This training in unconventional gas will help identify what CBM is, where it is found and how it is extracted. With an overview of specific environmental and regulatory issues associated with CBM technology, you will examine some of the new technologies, development and research associated with coalbed methane.
Learn coal geology, Insitu Gasification of Coal, plus stratigraphy and the coal formations found in the Western Sedimentary Basin (WCSB). You’ll also become familiar with the drilling and completion practices for CBM and shale gas projects, and the environmental and regulatory concerns that can impact CBM development.
