OCHS 001 - Comprehensive Fall Protection Course Description Some of the most serious injuries that occur on the jobsite are related to falls. According to the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code, “an employer must ensure that a worker is trained in the safe use of the fall protection system before allowing the worker to work in an area where a fall protection system must be used” (2009, Part 9, p. 9-2). This 8-hour course satisfies the OHS requirement for training and provides a wallet-sized certification card upon successful completion of training.
This course will prepare students to correctly fit a harness and inspect all components used in the fall protection system. Students will also learn how to calculate ground and obstacle clearances for different lengths of lanyards and rigging configurations. This course reviews current OHS regulations concerning fall protection. It also prepares students to conduct hazard assessment surveys, choose the appropriate fall protection equipment, and develop a rescue procedure to be used if a worker is suspended by a fall arrest system.
