INST 138 - Gas Measurement


Course Description
The course provides technical knowledge specifically focused on gas metering technology, its installation, design, and operation practices used within the oil and gas industry. You will learn about different gas metering types, including the pros and cons associated with various forms of gas measurement, installation and accuracy requirements. Upon completion of the course you will be able to apply Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission (BC OGC) and Saskatchewan Ministry of the Economy (SaskEcon) regulations in gas measurement, specify the appropriate use of American Gas Association (AGA) and American Petroleum Institute (API) when designing gas metering applications (API or AGA standards applying to specific Gas Metering technologies, design and installation), and identify installation instructions for Gas Metering types. Upon completion of this course you will also learn how to specify gas metering applications that require pressure and temperature correction and outline the metering challenges and regulatory reporting requirements associated with wet gas and multi-phase gas measurement applications, outline fuel, flare and vent measurement, estimation and reporting regulations throughout the oil and gas industry in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
