GFTG 103 - Gasfitter Class B Red Seal Interprovincial Exam Preparation


Course Description
Gasfitter Class ‘B’ Red Seal Interprovincial Exam Preparation course is designed for certified for Gasfitter ‘B’ Journeypersons and related tradespeople preparing to challenge the Canadian Interprovincial Gasfitter Class ‘B’ Exam.  

During the course, you will have an extensive overview of the topics and theory components covered in the interprovincial exam. You will review the extensive use of the fuel gas codes as well as the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to receive the Red Seal Endorsement. As part of this course, you will complete lesson assessments each week, as well as a final exam. Feedback will be provided for each assessment as a way for you to understand their areas for improvement prior to writing the interprovincial exam.

Before enrolling in this course, it is highly recommended that you have completed the hours required to challenge the exam - which are subject to Alberta Industry and Training (AIT) accreditation review OR already hold a provincial Gasfitter ‘B’ journeyperson certificate.

Please be aware that this course does not qualify you to write the exam as AIT is responsible for exam qualification and execution. The course is designed to provide you with the study techniques and an overview of the exam topics to help you in preparing to write the exam.

Technical Requirements

Students must bring their CSA B149.1-15 & B149.2-15 code books to class. These are available to print free of charge from the SAIT library for registered students. Library access is provided on the first day of class.

Additional study materials must be purchased from the bookstore. See bookstore.sait.ca for information.

Before enrolling in this course, it is recommended that you

  • Have a Provincial Gasfitter “B” Journeyperson Certification or
  • Have completed the hours required to challenge the exam subject to AIT accreditation review. (NOTE: The AIT Application and verification process can take as long as 7 months)

It is also recommended (but not required) that you possess 2 - 5 years of field experience in the gasfitting trade.
