CPNT 108 - Introduction to Networks

Course Description
This networking course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components and models of the Internet and other computer networks. It uses the Open System Interconnection (OSI) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) layered models to examine the nature and roles of protocols and services at the application, network, data link and physical layers.

This introduction to the principles and structure of internet protocol (IP) addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media and operations provides a strong foundation for the curriculum.

Packet Tracer activities help you analyze protocol and network operation and build small networks in a simulated environment. This course is offered in a hybrid learning environment and students will be expected to do a considerable amount of work outside of the class using online resources. A significant portion of class time will be devoted to lab work and there will be additional lab time available on weekends.
