PETR 001 - Shale and Future Resources Course Description As conventional gas and oil reserves decline around the world, it has become increasingly important to develop “unconventional resources”. Throughout this course, you will examine the differences between conventional and unconventional oil/gas exploration, production and techniques. Currently, unconventional petroleum includes (CBM) coalbed methane, shale gas and oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas hydrates, and (ISCG) in-situ coal gasification. This course will focus on shale gas and oil geology, chemistry, drilling, well completions and production methods - mostly in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
