WELD 011 - By Hammer and Hand Blacksmithing


Course Description
A workshop designed for those interested in forging steel.  You will be introduced to the basic tools used by blacksmiths. Learn about shop safety, the running of a gas forge, and proper tool selection and handling. Students will learn tips and tricks of hand forging at the anvil.  This introduction will be used by students to create personal objects such as wall hooks, fire pokers or forging samples. Come prepared to work hard and broaden your experience by sharing ideas in a well-equipped shop with others of similar interest. The emphasis is on creativity, having fun and being safe.

Required Materials
Students are required to have the following safety equipment: Flame retardent clothing - for example, 100% cotton denim. High top leather boots - preferably steel toe. Welding goggles, if you have them.
