ELEC 135 - Electrical Industry Overview Course Description: This course was designed to provide participants with a high-level overview of the coordinated operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System and the functioning of the restructured electricity market. It is intended for both technical and non-technical personnel employed in the electricity sector and related industries that are knowledgeable in specific areas but now need to develop an understanding of:
- fundamental principles
- how the interconnected power system functions as a whole;
- who are the key players and their roles and responsibilities;
- the timeline and rationale for the restructuring of the Alberta Electricity sector,
- current issues in the electricity sector and drivers for change,
- the functioning of the energy and ancillary services market,
- market mechanisms and trading strategies.
