LDSH 171 - Guiding Through Conflict

Course Description:
We can broadly define conflict as what happens when there are incompatible goals, thoughts, beliefs, or emotions between or within individuals or groups that lead to opposition or differences in opinion. As such, it is almost ever-present. Dealing with it effectively is one of the things that separates those who exercise leadership effectively from the also-rans. There are two basic approaches to dealing with conflict. One relies on organizational structure: things such as policies, procedures, and job descriptions which make sure that each person in the organization knows what his or her job is, its limits, and its responsibilities. The conventional wisdom here is that if everyone knows what’s expected of him or her, the possibilities of conflict are significantly reduced.
