ENVS 3020 - Sustainable Construction Description The Sustainable Construction course addresses the application of sustainable development principles in the built environment. It discusses ethical, environmental, economic, and social dimensions and their implications for the construction sector. Participants will gain knowledge of a wide range of construction management planning tools, such as environmental impact assessments, ecological design principles, low-impact development strategies, and green building certification tools. The course also provides an understanding of basic LCA and LCCA concepts to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure solutions. Additionally, it includes an introduction to Canadian environmental legislation and the energy code, as well as practical applications in sustainable buildings, such as energy saving and building information modelling (BIM). Through theoretical knowledge, case studies, and hands-on projects, participants will be prepared to adopt sustainable practices in real-world building projects and to contribute successfully to the construction industry’s sustainability initiatives.
