Program Description


SAIT’s Aboriginal Financial Management certificate of achievement program provides an introduction to the financial, managerial, organizational, ethical, and legal considerations relevant for successful decision making.  With a focus on finance and accounting, this program is for anyone wishing to enter the workforce or transfer credits to further studies in accounting or business administration.  Case studies, in-class exercises, research assignments and projects provide opportunities to work individually and in teams mirroring the effect of performance on individuals and businesses in the workplace.  Regardless of where this program leads you, your increased skills in writing and presenting information will give you the confidence to convey your messages and decisions professionally.  Through hands-on training with industry-standard software you will thrive in the classroom or the office.

This program is designed to assist accounting practitioners in increasing their productivity in the workforce as well as enable them to progress into more senior level accounting positions.

Credential


After successfully completing this program, learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement in Aboriginal Financial Management.

Progression


You have up to five years to complete all certificate courses. You must meet the graduation requirements as they exist at the time you register for your first course (see AC.3.1.1 Grading and Progression).

Admission Requirements


There are no entrance requirements for this program. You can begin registering for courses anytime by clicking a course name or calling 403-284-7248. Once you have registered for at least one course and have a SAIT student ID number, consider filling out and submitting the Program Declaration Form to the Office of the Registrar. Contact information for the Office of the Registrar is located in the upper corner of the form.

Program Outcomes


  1. Interpret various types of financial information using generally accepted accounting methods, concepts, and principles.
  2. Manage financial data using standard accounting practices related to corporations and partnerships.
  3. Analyze ways the Canadian legal system may manage risk, fair treatment, and rights and obligations of individuals and businesses.
  4. Create documents, reports, and presentations with correct formats and content to communicate professionally.
  5. Evaluate the impact of individual, team, leader, and organizational behaviours on the overall effectiveness of an organization.
  6. Manage various types of data for maximum productivity using industry standard software for documents, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations in the Windows environment.
  7. Assess the influences and situations that affect ethical decision making in the workplace.
  8. Explore management strategies for leadership and decision making that maximize employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.
