Program Description


Take the next step in improving your accounting career and skills through SAIT’s Accounting certificate of achievement accelerated program. Whether you are just starting out in an accounting related job, or are looking to advance professionally, we can help boost your career through this high quality, foundational program.

The Accounting certificate of achievement (Accelerated) at SAIT is available through Continuing Education (evening and weekend courses) and Distance Education (online courses). Through this part-time program, you can build your career in accounting at a pace that works for you.

As a SAIT student, you will gain a better understanding of business and bookkeeping through our in-depth program. In addition to accounting courses, we help ensure your career success through training in effective business communications and marketing, business computers and economics, among others.

Graduates of this program may be eligible for entry-level accounting jobs such as:

  • Accounting Clerk
  • Bookkeeper
  • Customer Service Representative
  • Payroll Clerk

Laddering and Transferability

We want you to succeed and reach your full potential in the accounting profession. Our programs are designed to help you advance to the type of career you’re seeking. All of our courses are transferable to our part-time or our full-time Business Administration - Accounting major - diploma.

Our accounting courses are recognized for the Chartered Professional Accountant Professional Education Program (CPA PEP).

Student Success

  • Remaining focused and diligent with coursework is important for success in completing the program.
  • You must be able to read, write and understand English at a level exceeding basic conversational English.

Note: This program is eligible for the Canada-Alberta Job Grant.

Progression


You have up to five years to complete all certificate courses. You must meet the graduation requirements as they exist at the time you register for your first course (see AC.3.1.1 Grading and Progression).

Admission Requirements


It’s a simple process to get started. There are no entrance requirements for this program. You can register for courses at any time by visiting our website, SAIT.ca. Be sure to have your SAIT student ID number. Need to get your ID number? Call Student Services at 1.877.284.7248.

Once you have registered for at least one course, fill out and submit the Program Declaration Form to Student Services.

You have up to five years to complete all certificate courses. You must meet the graduation requirements as they exist at the time you register for your first course (see AC.3.1.1 Grading and Progression).

Program Outline


Our accounting courses are available through Continuing Education, available evenings and weekends, as well as through Distance Education, available online.

Evening and weekend classes are offered in January, May and September. Online courses are offered 3-12 times per year, start dates vary.

Registration is as follows:

  • Fall enrollment opens in July
  • Winter enrollment opens in October
  • Spring enrollment opens in February

Online registration closes about one week before the course start date. You can register up to one business day before the start date by calling 403.284.7248 or 1.877.284.7248. Courses fill up quickly; it is recommended you register early.

Ten courses are required to complete this program.

  • ACCT 215 - Introductory Financial Accounting I 3 credits
  • ACCT 255 - Introductory Financial Accounting II 3 credits
  • BCMP 225 - Business Productivity Tools and Technology 3 credits
  • BMAT 230 - Business Mathematics 3 credits
  • BLAW 300 - Business Law 3 credits
  • COMN 220 - Communication and Presentation Skills 3 credits
  • ECON 250 - Microeconomics 3 credits
  • ECON 305 - Macroeconomics 3 credits
  • MNGT 250 - Organizational Behaviour 3 credits
  • MKTG 260 - Marketing Essentials 3 credits
