Introduction to Cook Apprentice

Program Description


Cooks are in high demand for the growing food service industry in Calgary and area. SAIT’s Introduction to Cook Apprentice Certificate of Achievement program was developed in collaboration with industry and is designed to prepare you for a career in the thriving and dynamic culinary industry.

In this four-month program, you’ll be trained by leading chefs at SAIT’s world-class downtown Culinary Campus. SAIT’s production-style training will give you hands-on experience in a high-volume kitchen with essential skills in: 

  • Knife and cooking techniques
  • Soups and sauces 
  • Meat preparation
  • WHMIS
  • Food safety and sanitation

Program Overview


Your Career

SAIT’s cook program prepares you to enter the culinary field in hotels, resorts, restaurants, institutional food service companies, and a host of other dynamic organizations. Once employed, you may further advance your skills through SAIT’s Cook Apprentice program.

Progression


You have up to five years to complete all certificate courses. You must meet the graduation requirements as they exist at the time you register for your first course (see AC.3.1.1 Grading and Progression).

Admission Requirements


  • ​All applicants must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada.
