CAPPA Oil and Gas Production Accounting

Program Description


Developed and certified by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting (CAPPA), this series of courses provides students with a thorough knowledge of petroleum products, as well as an understanding of the oil and gas industry’s financial practices and government regulations. These courses were expanded and updated for July 1, 2019. Refer to the CAPPA website for more details.

  • Students who have successfully completed OGPA-210 Introduction to the Oil and Gas Industry may be eligible to use this course towards the Energy Asset Management Diploma and the Petroleum Land Administration Certificate.

Your Career


Graduates find work as production, operation or royalty accountants in the petroleum industry. Additional employment areas include production revenue and joint venture accounting.

Credentials


After successfully completing this program, graduates will receive a certificate from CAPPA. See the Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting (CAPPA) website for prerequisites and graduation requirements.

Student Success


To be issued the CAPPA certificate, students must complete all CAPPA courses within three (3) years with a minimum grade of B- in each. This applies to all students regardless of institution or method of course delivery. 

These courses were expanded and updated for July 1, 2019. Students who started the program prior to this date will be bridged into the new curriculum. Contact business.advising@sait.ca for more information. 

For those students beginning the courses after July 1, 2019, the following prerequisite courses are required:

  • An Excel course prior to entry into course 2 (PRDT 201 Field Data Capture and Application). SAIT’s BCMP 225 Business Productivity Tools and Technology course meets this requirement. 
  • A basic Financial Accounting course prior to entry into course 6 (ACCT 216 Fee Calculations and Journal Entries). SAIT’s ACCT 215 Introductory Financial Accounting I course meets this requirement.

Accreditation
