Process Piping Drafting

Program Description


Online delivery brings your SAIT education to you - wherever you are and whatever your schedule. Through a series of 13 courses, you will gain practical skills in the latest software and drafting techniques in the process piping drafting industry. Learn how to produce accurate computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) drawings and documents including two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) models used in piping projects.

This certificate program provides you with entry-level training for the critical role of a Computer Aided Draftsperson, assisting engineers and technologists as part of the process design drafting team. You will support piping design projects in a variety of industries by conducting engineering calculations, plant layout planning, preparing flow diagrams and schematics, layouts, specifications, and detailed construction drawings.

Students will have five years to complete their program per SAIT policy AC.3.1.1 Grading and Progression.

Your Career


Graduates of the Process Piping Drafting (PPD) program are highly sought after. With an industry-recognized PPD certificate, you’ll be qualified to start an exciting career as a Junior Drafter. Graduates work in various sectors including energy resources, government, municipal, water treatment, hospitality, and construction.

Student Success


Draftspersons are disciplined, detail-oriented and enjoy working in a team environment. The ability to work and learn independently is critical in online education. Other factors relating to student success include:

  • Time management skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Computer skills

Students who are engaged and take advantage of various services usually experience more success in SAIT programs.

Students must have a personal computer and access to the Internet. All courses require additional self-study.

Credentials


After successfully completing this program, graduates will be awarded a SAIT certificate in Process Piping Drafting.

Accreditation


Graduates from the PPD program are now eligible to earn their C.Tech and C.E.T. designations through The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals in Alberta (ASET).

Progression


Students must attain a PGPA and/or a CGPA of 2.0 or better in each semester and pass the necessary prerequisite courses to progress through the program. To qualify for graduation, students must pass all courses, attain a CGPA of 2.0 or better and complete course requirements within the prescribed timelines.

Admission Requirements


At least 50% in the following courses or equivalents:

  • English Language Arts 30-1 or English Language Arts 30-2, AND
  • Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 or Pure Math 30 or Applied Math 30, AND
  • All applicants to SAIT Polytechnic must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada.
